SS-31 (Elamipretide)

Research compound supplied in Australia by Pulse Biolabs for laboratory use. Available in 10mg, 50mg.

Pulse Research // 016  ·  Mitochondrial membrane peptide

Mitochondria need their inner membrane intact to turn fuel into usable energy. SS-31 is studied because it binds a fat found almost only in that membrane.

SS-31, known clinically as elamipretide, is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide that binds cardiolipin, a fat found almost only in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is studied because that membrane’s structure affects how cells turn fuel into usable energy. Mechanism evidence comes from isolated mitochondria and rodents; randomised human trials of pharmaceutical elamipretide in Barth syndrome, mitochondrial myopathy and heart failure have had mixed results, and a 2025 US approval is limited to Barth syndrome. Supplied for laboratory research.

Batch documents

1 published report for SS-31 (Elamipretide), listed by presentation and batch. Where a batch reference is shown, match it to the batch on the vial label; a report for an earlier batch is historical documentation and does not describe the batch currently supplied. Where no batch reference is published, the report cannot be matched to a vial and is historical documentation only. No report is published for 50mg. Each report describes the sample and the tests shown on it. A purity result does not by itself establish identity, quantity, sterility or endotoxin status unless those tests appear on the report, and a report for one batch does not describe another.

Handling

Supplied as lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed vial. Store sealed and protected from light at the conditions stated on the product label or supplied specification. Solvent choice, concentration and handling after reconstitution depend on the compound and on the laboratory’s own procedures, and are not specified here.

Status and limitations

SS-31 (elamipretide) is not an approved medicine in Australia. In the United States, Forzinity (elamipretide injection) received FDA accelerated approval on 19 September 2025 for Barth syndrome in patients weighing at least 30 kg, subject to a confirmatory trial; that approval applies to the pharmaceutical product and indication only, not to this research material.

Status checked 2026-09-23. Details and sources in the research note.
