Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, designed as a counterpart to a pineal gland extract called Epithalamin. It is studied for a reported effect on telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective ends of chromosomes, and on melatonin rhythm in aged animals. Evidence comes from cultured human cells and rodent and monkey studies from one research programme; the long-term human study in this literature used the extract, not Epitalon.
